It was beautiful yesterday so I went to the park. As I was jogging through the woods I had a thought that life is a lot like running. Some days it feels really good and then some days it’s so rough you don’t think you can make it another step. Somehow though, you can always seem to make it just a little bit further.
Sometimes (especially when you try hills and interval sets your first day back in a while) it can leave you hurting for awhile after. The good news though is that you’re a much stronger person once you get to the other side of that pain.
Once you’re finished running I do believe you’re allowed some treats, especially chocolate ones. And I’ve heard it said life is like a box of chocolates too.
I realized today that summer is officially here, so I wrote a quick bit at lunch! ☀️😀☀️
I tried to write a poem off of the word ‘summer’ because I’d never tried that before, here are the results:
Sunshine and heat can be beat
Under a big beach umbrella
Moved far from the waves that lap for your lunch,
Making every effort to stretch on the sand, reaching for blankets and
Everyone’s toes, but they slow when they land, and must be content with
Reclaiming the sand from castles built along the shore.
Everyone who has walked into my life
has left footprints on my heart.
So friends, welcome, and be careful where you tread,
once you choose to play a part.
WARNING: Summer is a time of sporadic writing for me as it’s the busiest time at work. I did find a moment while I was cooking lunch this afternoon though, and this was the result. (Simmered for 15 minutes on low heat.)
Choices flavor life in a variety of ways,
(Including the choices of others whom you invite to stay.)
Sprinkle in adventure for a hot and spicy meal,
A dash of courage and enthusiasm mixed, combine for unmatched zeal.
Caution has no flavor, just makes sure that life’s cooked through,
and makes sure you have the chance to add other ingredients too.
You can add, according to taste, as much friendship as you please.
Indeed, the more the merrier! (And I’m sure everyone agrees.)
For sweetness add in love, as much as can be found,
In cooking, as in life, love knows no bounds.
If tangy is the taste that you’ve been looking for,
toss in a pinch of ambition and watch your dreams soar.
Loneliness and sorrow taste bitter so take care,
to try and keep them out of any dish you should prepare.
A tablespoon of trust and remaining open to what you don’t know,
will add a zesty kick that will surprise and delight you, oh and also
don’t be afraid to give a sprinkle of self confidence a whirl,
it finishes off a dish nicely with a fancy little swirl.
Combine ingredients and cook slowly, savoring the process.
Taste regularly and adjust, it will always be a work in progress.
It only took me three years…but I made it!
Each year the annual Via Colori festival allows local artists in my area the opportunity to come together in a community event and fill the streets with art…literally. Roads are blocked, traffic redirected, and the artists take to the streets for some serious sidewalk chalk time.
I decided to brave the heat and the threat of absolutely no available parking this past weekend and I’m so glad I did. The talent, the art, and the excitement about the city were well worth it! I think the rain must have been jealous of the talent because it has already washed the streets clean, but I managed to capture pictures of a few of the pieces before they found the drains.
